Position Summary:

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Certified Nurse Midwife, Part Time at our Cobble Hill Brooklyn location.

In this role, the successful candidate will work with Maternal-Fetal Medicine and General Obstetrics and Gynecology specialists in a private outpatient office of the NYU Department of Obs/Gyn. Performs comprehensive history and physical examinations, obtains pertinent patient medical information, record medical information in electronic medical record format and provides accurate and sensitive patient counseling and follows up of care. Works closely with the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Division in the care of women carrying high-risk complicated pregnancies, and assists in the arrangement of multidisciplinary approaches to these complicated pregnancies.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide family centered midwifery care to patients in the context of a group practice. The expectations of the practice are as follows: Clinical Competence.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Earn at least 20 CME hours per year.
  • Work is distributed between Gouverneur and Bellevue Hospital Center as is outlined in Affiliation Agreement. At present time, 50% of budget is Gouverneurs responsibility and 50% is Bellevues (RVU based).
  • Provides feedback to the Director regarding any problems affecting the service.
  • Strives to improve language skills in Spanish & Chinese.
  • Demonstrates initiative by sharing in sick call and other emergency coverage.
  • Participates in efforts to promote and expand our midwifery practice.
  • Maintains credentials at all appropriate facilities.
  • Checks e-mail at the start of each clinical day for messages from practice.
  • Participates in back-up call system for weekend coverage (4 weekends per year minimum).
  • Participates in teaching of midwifery students, medical students and House Staff.
  • Participates in the committee work of our practice and some administrative functions.
  • Participates in Data Collection & Quality Assurance Activities.
  • Inpatient care: contributes to the midwifery coverage of the Birth Center and Labor & Delivery equally with the other staff midwives.
  • Outpatient care: prenatal, postpartum, gynecology and family planning.
  • Timeliness.
  • Interpersonal competence. Relates well with patients, colleagues, and ancillary staff, Midwifery Director, House Staff and Consulting Physicians.
  • Two year commitment. 6 weeks notice and complete published schedule commitment.
Minimum Qualifications:

To qualify you must have:
  • Midwifery Certification-NYS
  • 2-3 years clinical experience
Required Licenses: Midwifery Certification-NYS

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:Prior experience in working in a labor and delivery suite or high-risk pregnancy practice, and in contraception, well woman care and menstrual irregularities.

Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
