Senior Virtual Lighting Artist with Unreal Engine (Freelance)

Silverspoon.tv is seeking an experienced Virtual Lighting Freelance artist with Unreal Engine to help on a current project.

Contract Details:

This opportunity starts with a 1 month freelance gig which can extend to a 3 months freelance contract and then turn into a permanent position.

We're looking at handling everything from the high-end gold/metallic look of ESPN, to the fun & kid-friendly characters for Nickelodeon, to college mascots & branded elements for CBS. So in terms of style, we're really looking for all-arounders.

Responsibilities:

  • Exhibit good color theory and technical expertise in architectural layout, lighting, scene composition, and environmental FX polish (bloom, color adjust, fog, etc.).
  • Create mood and atmosphere through real-time lighting that aligns with the projects art direction and technical needs.
  • Develop lighting systems, color grading, and other post-process setups to enhance the visual quality.
  • Collaborate with technical artists and engineers to establish the lighting pipeline, define tools and workflows, and set lighting standards.
  • Translate lighting references, concepts, and art styles into gameplay lighting.
  • Troubleshoot lighting challenges, optimize visual performance, and ensure completion of lighting goals.
  • Act as a mentor to fellow team members, raising the quality bar and sharing your game developer knowledge.
  • Keep up to date with new technologies and continue to improve on existing workflows.
  • Contribute to creating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture, where every employee feels a sense of belonging.
Required Qualifications:
  • Must possess a strong sense of composition, color, lighting, perspective, and scale
  • Demonstrated understanding of how light, shadow, and color create environmental tone and mood.
  • Proficiency in real-time lighting principles.
  • A strong team player who takes direction and constructive feedback well is integral to this position
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to work well in a collaborative team environment
  • Must be able to complete tasks on tight deadlines and work in a very fast paced environment
Desired Qualifications:
  • At least 2 years experience in Unreal Engine
  • Advanced understanding of shaders
  • Experience with AR, XR and other new media concepts.
  • Experience in live TV, concerts or events.
