Job Summary

Houston Skilled Consultancy is seeking a detail-oriented and linguistically proficient Product Manual Translator – German to English to join our growing team in a remote, work-from-home capacity. The ideal candidate will possess native or near-native fluency in both German and English and demonstrate a strong ability to accurately translate complex technical documents such as product manuals, user guides, and installation instructions. You will work closely with product managers, technical writers, and quality assurance teams to ensure translated materials are clear, consistent, and localized appropriately for English-speaking audiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate technical product manuals from German into clear and grammatically correct English while preserving original meaning and intent.

  • Ensure consistency in terminology and tone across multiple product documents.

  • Collaborate with technical writers, engineers, and project managers to clarify unclear content and ensure translation accuracy.

  • Edit and proofread translated documents to detect and correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, and syntax errors.

  • Apply industry-specific terminology effectively, especially in areas such as electronics, machinery, medical devices, or software, depending on project requirements.

  • Maintain translation memory tools and glossaries to ensure standardization.

  • Meet deadlines for high-volume translation tasks while maintaining accuracy and quality.

  • Report regularly on project status and address any translation issues or risks.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Translation, Linguistics, Technical Writing, Engineering, or a related field.

  • Proficiency in German (reading and comprehension) and fluent English writing skills is mandatory.

  • Demonstrated experience in translating technical documentation, particularly product manuals.

  • Excellent command of grammar, spelling, and punctuation in English.

  • Proficiency with translation software (e.g., SDL Trados, MemoQ) and document formatting tools (e.g., Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat).

  • Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and time management skills.

Experience

  • Minimum 1–3 years of experience in professional German-to-English translation, preferably within a technical or manufacturing setting.

  • Experience with terminology management and CAT tools is highly preferred.

  • Prior experience working with international teams or localization projects is a plus.

Working Hours
